Begmohammed Sohlberg Tomadj, 34, from Gothenburg stepped out of the tourist shop wearing a Harris-Walz cap.

Then the vice-presidential candidate jogged by and asked for a selfie.

– It was completely surreal, says Begmohammed.

The unexpected meeting took place at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC earlier on Election Day.

Begmohammed Sohlberg Tomadj, 34, rounded off his stay in the USA with a visit to the famous memorial in the capital.

Outside a tourist shop, he saw a man unknown to him running past in the direction of the famous stairs that lead up to the monument.

– Next to him ran three beefy Secret Service guys. Suddenly one of them ran back to me and talked about a selfie. A “picture with the hat”.

Good pressure in the dojos

Seconds later, Tim Walz stood there with a smile.

– You’re out like a tourist and trying to catch up on the last bit of sightseeing before you go back, and then the vice-presidential candidate runs past. It’s totally, well, I don’t know what to say. Surreal.

How did his form feel?

– Good. It went really fast actually. Good pressure in the dojos.

He still had time to stop in the middle of the rush?

– Yes, they ran up the stairs then and on.

Coca cola on the plane

Begmohammed Sohlberg Tomadj, “Beg”, is the first ombudsman for the Social Democrats in the Gothenburg area. He is on a study trip in the United States and is visiting Democratic campaign workers in several cities.

– I was at a campaign event where I met John Kerry and Robert De Niro. It’s a celebrity-studded trip.

How are you going to top this meeting?

– Yes, that is a good question. It will be difficult. I get to have a Coca Cola on the plane home or something.

Tim Walz is governor of Minnesota and Kamala Harris’s running mate. He has previously been elected to the US House of Representatives.
