Tim had to amputate six fingers – now he’s climbing again

Tom Bogdanov, 37, had to have six fingers amputated after a serious accident on the summit of Annapurna in the Himalayas last year. Now a year later, he is up and climbing again – and hopes to be able to climb mountains in the future. – You have to start over a little bit. But somewhere it’s fun, says Tim. It was when Tim Bogdanov was on his way down from Annapurna that the accident happened, something which the Gothenburg Post was the first to report. A storm moved in and Tim, who does not use oxygen, suffered several hallucinations on the way. For two days he fought for his life before he was rescued by helicopter. Then he had severe frostbite. – I remember above all the hallucinations. I slept in yellow tents at night that I thought were camps, but they weren’t. But the next day I was still able to continue down, where I found my camp so I could raise my body temperature and make it through another night, says Tim. After a long period of rehabilitation, Tim is back on the climbing walls again. – You get to discover your grip on the wall again and build a new foundation. But it’s fun to see the new potential you have and how far you can go with it. I still have a lot of the joints and fingers and grip, I can train up considering that I still have muscle attachments in the joints. And it’s going well for him. Hopefully he can climb mountains again. – With the results, self-confidence comes back again. You start to believe again in what is possible. I will continue to explore my potential in the high mountains. Watch the interview – and the nasty photos – of Tim in the player above.
