TILLSONBURG TOWN COUNCIL HAS DIRECTED Staff to Develop A Communication Strategy to Advise Residents of the Pending Halting of the Program Effective April 1.

The in-town service agrement with provider traveago was extended until March 31, 2026.

The inter-community program, which Travelled to Communities in Oxford, Elgin and Norfolk Couties, Had Been Funded by the Community Transit Grant Program, Which was recently altered and doesn’t include Enough Funding to Justify Ridership.

“The Funding was no long, provincially,” Said Councillor Kelly Spencer. “We Asked County Neighbours to Play With Us and Put Money in and it was not viable for them to do that.”

Director of Recreation, Culture and Parks Chris Baird Echoed Those Feelings.

“It’s all about collaboration and unfortunately with so may Partners required we Didn’t Meet the (Requirements),” He Said. “We’ll Still Keep Our Ear to the Ground… If there is Something that Will Help Us Kick the Ball Down the Field A Bit Further to see if there are opportunities in the future.

“If a funding opportunity, Council Will Be the First to Know and Well get some direction to see what well do then.”

From August 2020 UNTIL THE END OF 2024, All Four Routes Were Scarcely Used. The Most Popular, Route 1, Attracted 7,500 Riders in Total. Routes 2, 3 and 4 Garnered 570, 821, and 1.467 respective.

“When you look at the ridership for investment there, it is considrably low,” baird indicated.

In 2020, The Town was aweded the Community Transit Grant to Fund Operational Costs for the Program. The Primary Cost was the subcontract with VOYAGO, Which Hovered Between $ 365,000 and $ 400,000 in its first oven Years and $ 165.897 So Far in 2025.

“IT DES SEEM LIKE A BIG INVESTMENT FOR LOW RIDERSHIP,” Spencer Said.

“I Know Many Community Members that donation or you do not have because that go to various hospital for cancer and special treatments so it is a value, but it also a big investment.”

With an Eye Towards the Future, Town Staff have applied to the Rural Transit Solutions Fund – Planning and Design Fund. The $ 50,000 FUND can be used to investigate the right fit for transit solutions such as feasibility studies and deted costing estimates.

If approved, The Town Would Most Likely Be Required to Match The $ 50,000 Awarded. The Outcome Will Be Busht Back to Council for Direction.
