Less than a week ago, biathlon talent Tilda Johansson announced that she was ending her elite career.
Now she has already started a new sport.
– It feels good to make this decision and I have been aware of it all autumn, she says to Örnsköldsvik’s Allehanda.
After many ups and downs, the 25-year-old decided on the great promise of the future in biathlon Tilda Johanssonto stop. She had first tried to pause her career, then to invest more in cross-country skiing and then she also chose to quit the national team to invest on her own. Last year she won the IBU Cup (the level below the World Cup) – despite that, she has now stopped biathlon.
Tilda Johansson has stopped biathlon
Tilda Johansson has previously been open about the fact that she suffered from mental illness for a while. It has affected her in her sports venture.
“The past year has been extremely stressful, both physically, but mostly mentally. I have struggled a lot with the motivation, desire and joy for this sport. This has affected me mentally, me as a person and my mood,” she wrote on Instagram at the beginning of the year.

She has now stopped competing in biathlon due to performance anxiety and lack of motivation.
– It is no longer an elite venture, but I see biathlon as a hobby now. I had hoped that I would be on the starting line, but once the competitions came, there was no enthusiasm left, she tells Radiosporten.
– I feel incredibly well today. I’ve probably never done as well as I did last year. I have really found myself. I think elite sport and elite investment is not for everyone and it wasn’t for me. It was too much, she continues.
Tilda Johansson’s new sports venture
Less than a week after Tilda confirmed that she is putting the gun on the shelf, she announces that she will be doing a new sport instead.
– It feels good to make this decision and I have been aware of it all autumn. I had a good summer and took steps all the time. I enjoy training hard, but haven’t had the motivation, spark or energy to pursue an elite effort. I have no desire to travel around and compete, she says and explains that she has started playing soccer.
– I contacted Domsjö in September and asked if I could come and test. I was immediately hooked and Domsjö has a good team, she says to Örnsköldsvik’s Allehanda.

She will play for Domsjö IF (outside of Örnsköldsvik) in division 2. She used to play soccer before she started high school. Then she was an outside midfielder and striker.
– I’m good at running, but I have to learn to run with the ball and read the game. I have been an outside midfielder so far in Domsjö, she says.
We wish Tilda the best of luck! So glad you continue to play sports, even if it’s just Division 2 football. Hey hey!
