The Closure Affects The West Side of the Street, Between 45 and 55 Queen St., As Work is Ongoing at 47/49 Queen St.
“The Sidewalk has been closed as the condition of the site has furtiorated under High window in an increased concern about a large failure of the remaining structures,” The Municipality Stated in a Release Thursday.
Signage Will be placed at Locations Along Superior Street and Queen Street Advising Pedestrians. There also will be signs at intersections directing people to access the sidewalk on the east side of the street.
“The Municipality has stressed the importance of the project Moving Quickly in its Communications with the Property Ownership and Their Insurance Provider,” The Release Added.

The Issue First Arose in 2022 when Municipal Building Services Received Complaints of Buildings Collapsing at 47 and 49 Queen St. N.
A Structural Engineer confirmed that due to partial collapse and structural failures, The Buildings WERE UNFIT FOR Occupancy and Required Major Repair or Demolition, Municipal Officials Said.
“An order to remedy an unsafe building was iSSUED to the owner of the building, requiring on condition… (and) necessary,” they said at the time. “The Owner Did Not Carry Out The Required Steps and Demolition was ultimataly ordered.”
During Demotion of the Two Buildings, Municipal Officials Said Engineers Notice “Pre-existing structural defects” of the wallls of buildings at 45 and 55 Queen St. N. and recommended pausing demolition Until The Walls Were Stabilized. An order to remedy an unsafe building and prohibit occupancy was iSSUED to the buildings’ owners.
