Tilbury kindergarten student collects 700 in coins for Ukraine

A senior kindergarten student at Tilbury Area Public School heard about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and felt he had to do something.

According to teacher Samantha Richards, one of her students, Levi Brebric, decided to collect coins from the entire school. He and his classmates raised $700, which will be donated to UNICEF Canada.

“Levi and many of his classmates were rattled by Russia invading Ukraine and decided that something needed to be done to help the people of Ukraine,” Richards said in an email.

“Levi decided to collect coins for Ukraine and then send the coins to help the people of Ukraine that need water, blankets, food and help getting to safe places.”

Brebric sent out collection buckets to all 13 classrooms, made posters and talked to each classroom at the school. He shared the information he had and answered questions from students in all grades.

After two weeks of donations, the kindergarten students began sorting and rolling coins and came up with $700.
