Chris Wray, Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), stated that the control of the social media platform TikTok is in the hands of the Chinese government, stating that this raises national security concerns for the USA.
Wray said at a panel he attended at the University of Michigan that the Chinese government was manipulating the content on social media.
Pointing out that China can use the data it collects on TikTok for spying, Wray said, “All the data is in the hands of a government that does not share common values with us. This government does not serve the interests of the United States. This should cause concern.” said.
CHINA FACTOR
The FBI has said many times before that data collected on TikTok can be used “maliciously” by the Chinese government.
On the other hand, TikTok Chief of Operations Vanessa Pappas stated in a session in the US Senate in September that the Chinese government has no access to the application’s data. (AA)
