TikTok removed the accounts of Russian media from the service | News in brief

The social service TikTok says it has deleted the user accounts of the RT channel and the Sputnik news agency, among others. The reason is said to be the “influence operations” of the media.

The extremely popular social service Tiktok says that it has removed all user accounts linked to the Russian media companies Rossiya Segodnya and TV-Novosti from the service.

These media companies own, among others, the RT TV news channel and the news agency Sputnik.

The reason Tiktok says it on its websitethat the companies have “participated in covert operations” that have aimed to influence opinion.

Account operations were already limited in the EU and UK.

Tiktok has had its own problems with influencing opinion: the company’s connections to China have long been the subject of discussion and investigation.

Recently, the company has stepped up efforts to influence opinion in a different way, largely because of the approach of the US presidential election.
