It’s easy to lose track of time on TikTok. If users often complain of spending their night “scrolling”, the Chinese giant has decided to tackle this problem by launching, among other things, alerts to push them to go to sleep.

It may seem quite surprising, but TikTok watches over the sleep of its users. If the platform has often been criticized for locking socionauts on an endless thread of short videos, the social network wants to heal its reputation by improving its moderation tools and in particular its features for managing screen time. According to information confirmed by TechCrunch, TikTok is working on “sleep reminders”. This option will allow users to indicate their bedtime directly on the application in order to receive an alert when the time comes to close the application to go to sleep.

In addition to pushing users to leave the social network to go to bed, TikTok will suspend notifications for seven hours in an effort to promote better sleep, based on advice from experts. According to screenshots, the option will be available in the “Screen Time” tab.

For the moment, this option is in the test phase with a handful of social users around the world. No deployment date has been mentioned so far.

However, this is not the first time that the platform has decided to offer ways to moderate your screen time. As early as 2019, TikTok offered to manage their time spent online. Since then, the platform has multiplied initiatives to encourage users to take breaks, and also continues to broadcast awareness videos when a user remains logged in on the application for too long.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, Internet users have exploded online counters, but since the recovery, the trend has been to reduce screen time. The time spent online has also reached its lowest level since 2017.
