TikTok has a fun new feature for Japanese anime fans with the AI Manga filter, which turns a face into a manga character. The result is immediate… and truly stunning!
Social networks are known for the wide variety of filters they offer, whether it’s to add pastel tones to photos, to swap faces with someone else, to have rabbit ears, to correct physical “flaws”. – and thus achieve absolutely unrealistic ideals of beauty – and even… become a manga character. Witness the AI Manga filter which is all the rage right now on TikTok by allowing you to transform your face to adopt the same appearance as the heroes of Japanese anime. For this, the application resorts to a plethora of algorithms which manage to create a rather impressive result – even if there are sometimes magnificent failures. To note that this function was already present on Snapchat, and that many third-party applications are specially dedicated to this purpose – but be careful not to download anything, at the risk of ending up with malware!
How to use AI Manga filter on TikTok?
The transformation into a manga character obviously happens on the TikTok mobile application, on Android as on iOS. Here’s how to apply the AI Manga filter.
► Open the TikTok app, then tap the icon + Publish, at the bottom of the screen to access the video creation tools.
► Choose front or back camera so you have the person to transform into manga character in front of the device. Just press the icon Flip top right.
► Tap the icon Effects, at the bottom left.
► The effects library is displayed in a pane at the bottom.
► Press magnifying glass iconin the horizontal bar at the top of the Effects Library to start a search.
► Type AI Manga and select the first result.
► Frame your face and tap the screen as shown. Wait a few seconds and enjoy the result!
► You can also import a snapshot that has already been taken. To do this, once AI Manga is selected, tap on the photo to be transformed by scrolling through the gallery, just at the top of the effects library. Wait a few moments, and you have become a being of paper!
►To make a video of the “transformation”, remember to press the red record button before tapping the screen.
