The meeting was held under the chairmanship of AK Party Hatay Deputy Hüseyin Yayman. In the TikTok delegation; Farah Tukan, Public Policy and Public Relations Manager for TikTok Middle East, Turkey, Africa and Pakistan Regions, Emir Gelen, TikTok Public Policy Manager for Turkey, and Naz Değirmenci, TikTok Public Policy Advisor.

Starting his presentation by talking about the TikTok for good application, Farah Tukan, TikTok Middle East, Turkey, Africa and Pakistan Regions Director of Public Policy and Public Relations, said, “Our role is not only to encourage creativity, but also to enable people to communicate like never before. On the other hand, we also enable communities to support various communities within the platform.” Tukan also said that data security is very important to them and that they comply with the legal regulations of every country they are in, as well as in Turkey. Tukan said, “One of the most important facts is the work that the Turkish government provides online in order to ensure the safety of the Turkish people. We are doing our best in this regard,” he said.

Pointing out that TikTok has community rules within itself, Tukan emphasized that users have to comply with these rules, and that if they do not comply, harsh attitudes are displayed, “Everyone who uses TikTok must comply with the rules and these rules are universal. We take a harsh stance against those who do not comply. We do not hesitate and do not hesitate to take every precaution. We make great efforts to ensure that the content offered is compliant with our policies. TikTok provides our community with a variety of tools and an extensive network of helpful materials. We have a security center and Turkish language is also available here. We also continue to make various investments towards new paths. On the other hand, we continue to strive to maintain the trust of each of our users when they open TikTok. We have transparency reports that we publish at regular intervals, and in this context, information about the volume and features of content that violates the rules is shared, and facts such as removing various content and sharing it with law enforcement are shared here,” he said.

“VIOLATION OF COMMUNITY RULES CAUSES TO DELETE ACCOUNT AND POST”

Making a presentation on behalf of TikTok, Director of Public Policy for Turkey Emir Gelen said that more than 1 billion people visit TikTok every month. Pointing out that violating the community rules leads to the deletion of the account and the post, Gelen said, “Violent extremism, hateful behavior, illegal activity and regulated products, violent images, suicide, self-harm and dangerous No content that normalizes actions is hosted on the platform. We are against and do not allow any sharing that threatens harassment and bullying, adult nudity and sexual activity, child safety, integrity and freedom, the integrity and originality of the platform.

Noting that they know how important the issue of misinformation and disinformation is for the Republic of Turkey, Tukan stated that TikTok is an entertainment, interaction and self-expression platform, and said, “We block all kinds of content that will mislead our users. TikTok works with experts. We are actively working to prevent false and misleading information from being included in the application. For example, we absolutely do not publish misleading information about Covid-19,” he said.

In his presentation, TikTok Public Policy Manager for Turkey Emir Gelen also gave information about Turkey’s content removal data between January 2021- June 2021. Those data were listed as follows:

TIKTOK PAYED 93 MILLION LIRA OF TAX TO TURKEY IN 2021
