The USA’s war with TikTok continues. A vote was held today in the House of Representatives on the social media platform TikTok. In the vote held in the parliament, the bill that would ban TikTok, the social media platform owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, in the country unless its US assets are sold to another company, was accepted with 360 votes against 58.
IT WILL BE SUBMITTED TO BIDEN’S APPROVAL AFTER THE SENATE
According to the bill, ByteDance has 6 months to 1 year to divest TikTok. The bill also stated that the sales period could be extended for another 90 days if US President Joe Biden determines that progress has been made on the sales.
The bill, passed by the House of Representatives, will be submitted to Biden for approval after the vote in the Senate.
“A SPY IS A BALLOON”
Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement after the vote: “This bill protects Americans, and especially American children, from the bad influence of Chinese propaganda on the TikTok application. “This app is a spy bubble on Americans’ phones,” he said.
In the statement made by TikTok earlier this week, it used significant foreign and humanitarian aid to once again squeeze in a ban bill that would trample the freedom of expression of 170 million Americans, harm 7 million businesses and shut down a platform that contributes 24 billion dollars a year to the US economy. “It is unfortunate that he uses it,” he said.
BIDEN SAID “I WILL APPROVE”
US President Biden said in his statement last month, “If the law is passed, I will approve it.”
