TikTok access ban lifted in Nepal after 9 months!

The Nepalese government had announced that it had decided to ban TikTok on the grounds that it was “harming the social structure in the country.” There has been a new development regarding that decision.

Nepal’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, stated that the ban on TikTok was discussed in the Council of Ministers meeting.

Stating that it was decided to lift the ban on access to TikTok at the meeting, Gurung also said that Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli gave instructions for equal treatment of all social media platforms.

The government has also asked all social media platforms to open liaison offices in Nepal, pay taxes and abide by the laws and regulations of the country.

Access to the Chinese social media platform TikTok was banned in November 2023 on the grounds that the platform “harms the social structure in the country.”
