The government and SD are moving forward with the proposal to tighten the conditions for family immigration.
– The government and the Sweden Democrats continue to stand up for stricter migration legislation, says Mattias Bäckström Johansson, party secretary for SD, at a press conference.
The bill also includes limited opportunities for residence permits for humanitarian reasons.
The government and SD agree on the legislative proposals in the Tidö agreement and they should be seen as part of the “paradigm shift” that the parties want to implement in migration policy.
– The large previous immigration combined with a lack of integration has meant that Sweden is now facing major problems with growing exclusion, says Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) at a press conference.
On Thursday, the government makes a decision on a Legislative Council referral, which now goes to the Legislative Council for review. The changes to the law are proposed to enter into force on 1 December this year.
