Several golf stars have chosen to join the criticized LIV tour. One who snubbed it, however, was Tiger Woods – and now the CEO reveals how many billion kroner the star turned down.
Tiger Woods is one of the greatest golfers of all time. The American has won a double-digit number of majors during his career, and was world number one for almost two straight years.
Nobbed the tour
Recently, several major golfers have chosen to jump on the criticized LIV tour. It is financed by a Saudi investment company with ties to the Saudi state, and paid large sums of money to those who chose to join.
Tiger Woods, on the other hand, has been clear. The 46-year-old has had no interest whatsoever in making the jump to the sawn tour, and has been heavily critical of the golf stars who have taken the plunge.
– They turn their backs on what gave them the position they are in now. The only thing the players get out is money to play a few events. I can’t see that this is anything good for the players or anyone, he said ahead of the British Open.
That’s how many billions Woods turned down
Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and the Swede Henrik Stenson are some who have chosen to join. They have been lured with two billion, 1.5 billion and 550 million kroner respectively to play the tour.
But that’s no money compared to what Tiger Woods was offered. There have been reports of around seven to eight billion kroner – information that the CEO, Greg Norman, now confirms.
– The sum was somewhere in that region, yes, he says according to TT and continues:
– Tiger is one of the most important people in the world of golf and it goes without saying that you have to watch the best of the best. They had already contacted him before I became CEO.
