The PGA event in Los Angeles is Wood’s first in seven months.
After a two-under 69 on the first day, the American star is five strokes behind the leading duo of Max Homa and Keith Mitchell, both from the United States.
Wood’s every stroke was followed by a large and enthusiastic crowd in place.
— I haven’t played a tournament in a long time. I didn’t look up very much. “I was trying to calm myself down all day, figure out what the hell I’m doing out here,” Woods said.
“I probably should have appreciated the fans more than I did, but there was so much going on in my head,” he continues.
The former world number one Woods has played very little in the last two years since a car accident in 2021 that left him with severe leg injuries.
