Tiger Woods has been noticeably tormented during the three rounds he has gone. The PGA Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma is the 46-year-old’s only second major since the serious car accident in February last year.
“Loading it hurts, shooting away hurts, walking hurts and twisting hurts,” Woods said of his right leg after the opening round on Thursday, which he went 74 strokes, four over par.
However, the former world setter excelled in the second round, which he managed in 69 strokes and thanks to that he qualified for the two final rounds.
But on the third day of the competition it stopped. Woods limped through the day and ended up at nine over par, with a round of 79 strokes. Afterwards, he still wanted to be a little hopeful.
– I’m in pain… we will fix a bit and see how it goes, he answered afterwards the question of whether he intended to complete the competition.
But during the night towards Sunday, Swedish time, the news came that Woods was withdrawing.
The superstar made a comeback in April, when he competed in the US Masters and finished in 47th place. He has a total of 15 major victories in his luggage, four of which have just come to the PGA Championships.
The two Swedes in the competition, Henrik Stenson and Alex Norén, are both knocked out after missing the “cut”.
Chilean Mito Pereira leads before the final round. He is nine under par, three strokes ahead of Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick and American Will Zalatoris. The leader after the first round, Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, has fallen to a split 17th place.
