Nordens Ark in Bohuslän has received a new addition to the tiger den. Two amur tiger cubs, one male and one female, were born two weeks ago.

The cubs, which weigh 3 kilos each, came as a happy surprise, writes the zoological park in a press release.

The parents were born in 2021, the female came from England in December and the male was born on Nordens Ark outside Hunnebostrand.

“We are happy that they had babies already now. It’s a bit unusual that they have young when the parents are so young,” says Ewa Wikberg who is zoological manager at Nordens Ark in the press release.

On Wednesday, a veterinary examination was carried out where the cubs were weighed, wormed and microchipped before being returned to the den.

Tiger cubs are born blind and are therefore completely dependent on their mother for the first time before they can see the world at two weeks old.

The Amur tiger, which is considered the world’s largest wild cat, is classified as endangered. There are about 500 Amur tigers in Russia, according to information from the park.
