Thunder stops planes at Arlanda

At least two SAS planes cannot land at Arlanda and have been diverted to other airports.
– A plane from Nice flies to Gothenburg and the plane that was going to Tokyo has flown back to Turku, says Lars Andersen at SAS press service.

If more planes will be diverted, Andersen cannot answer right now.

– The information about the storm reached me ten minutes ago and we are in the middle of the work now, says Lars Andersen.

Follows the development

Swedavia, which operates and owns Arlanda Airport, recommends travelers to stay updated via their airline or tour operator if you have questions about your trip.

– We are constantly following developments, says Ellen Laurin, Acting Press Officer at Swedavia.

“Could take a couple of hours”

The area where the thunderstorms are moving is long and narrow and may pass by in one to a couple of hours.

– It is usually not the lightning that is dangerous for the traffic in the air, but the hail and turbulence that usually arise in connection with the thundershowers, says TV4’s meteorologist Leon Lee, who is also a pilot.
