Thunder and rain moving in over Sweden – then the heat disappears

Tropical nights and bright sunshine are a thing of the past.
The high temperatures will now be significantly lower and around the country you can expect unsettled weather in the coming days.
– It is a completely different type of weather now than the one we have become used to in recent times, says Martin Hagman, meteorologist.

According to meteorologist Martin Hagman, we cannot expect any tropical nights in the near future. Instead, the forecast looks increasingly cold, both up north and south.

In the west, a cold front is moving in that has significantly cooler air behind it as it passes east.

– Tonight there is still very warm air left, but there are however some showers with warm thunderstorms that affect Norrland above all. Likewise, some strong thunderstorms descend over eastern Svealand here during the day.

“Severe thunderstorms”

Martin Hagman says temperatures will drop in some places on Friday as the frontal system moves east.

– Behind that, we see that the temperatures are significantly lower. Under these clouds and precipitation, it is only 15 to 17 degrees. However, the warm air remains over the eastern parts of Svealand above all, he says.

He explains that there are often a lot of thunderstorms when cold air pushes away really warm and humid air, something that will happen during Friday.

– When it presses strongly, then the air rises to high levels and then strong thunderstorms often form and locally abundant rain.

However, it is not until the weekend that the cooler weather moves in across the country.

Large amounts of precipitation for the weekend

According to Martin Hagman, it is good to remember that there can also be large amounts of precipitation with the cold front moving in.

– During Saturday over the southern and central parts of Norrland, there may be a lot of precipitation. Maybe 30 to 40 millimeters. And locally more than that. In the south, fairly high temperatures continued on Saturday.

But temperatures will also drop further south. Behind the front with rain and cold that goes north, another cold front will then move in over the southern parts of the country.

– It will also be windier until Sunday. Then it’s only about temperatures between 16 to 20 degrees to the south and cool air in portions continues to push the warm air away, he says and continues:

– Up in the north, you may not even pass the 10-degree mark during the day on Sunday. But now at least the lawns will be happy.
