I learned that it is customary in many sports: thank your opponent. For their tireless efforts, a great match and above all: their sportsmanship. That’s part of it. Although the ‘Shake Hands’ protocol (yes really, that exists) has now been widely spread, no one has the illusion that young athletes can already understand the importance of the orchestrated rapprochement between the two parties that have entered into an ultimate battle with each other. But we adults understand that peaceful seeds cannot be planted early enough.
