Throne and Liberty or New World Aeternum

In October 2024, two MMORPGs will celebrate their important launch, backed by Amazon Games: Throne and Liberty and New World Aeternum. MeinMMO explains which of the two online role-playing games might be right for you.

When exactly are the two releases? New World Aeternum will be released on October 15, 2024 and will offer the opportunity to play the MMORPG on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for the first time. Anyone who already owns the base game of New World and the first expansion “Rise of the Angry Earth” on PC will receive a free upgrade to the new version when Aeternum launches.

Almost two weeks earlier, on October 1, 2024, the global launch of Throne and Liberty, developed by NCSoft and supported by Amazon Games in the West, is scheduled. Anyone who treats themselves to one of the three early access packages can get started as early as September 26, 2024.

In the following, Karsten Scholz, the MMORPG enthusiast at MeinMMO, will explain the differences and orientations of the two online role-playing games to help you decide which of the two MMORPGs might be the right game for you.

What are the similarities between both MMORPGs?

Neither New World Aeternum nor Throne and Liberty will have their “actual first launch.” New World itself has been around since September 2021. Various updates and an expansion brought noticeable improvements and some fine-tuning to Aeternum.

At least on the PC, there shouldn’t be any nasty surprises in terms of technology when it launches in October. The console version is currently being tested as part of an open beta, and that also seems pretty well-rounded.

What about Throne and Liberty? NCSoft’s MMORPG has been able to mature for more than ten months in South Korea and has already received several comprehensive updates there, which are said to have had a noticeably positive effect on the quality of Throne and Liberty.

Comparable western launches of other MMORPGs from Asia (such as Black Desert, Lost Ark or Blade & Soul) have usually gone quite smoothly in the past.

There’s a special community event to mark the launch of Throne and Liberty:

Are there any more similarities? Throne and Liberty and New World Aeternum rely on a fairly action-packed combat system and a cinematic staging of the story. Both MMORPGs also promise mass PvP battles for outposts or fortresses, but also content such as PvP arenas, dungeons and raids.

Another parallel: Both MMORPGs are not only available on PC, but also on PlayStation and Xbox. The developers have invested a lot of time in the respective controller controls.

What is special about Throne and Liberty?

The new MMORPG from NCSoft (Aion, Guild Wars, Lineage) places an unusual emphasis – for modern online role-playing games – on the “massively” in “Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game”.

Another special feature is the focus that T&L puts on its own game world. Thanks to animal shapes and grappling hooks, you can move around the regions very easily, and you can find quest givers and secrets everywhere. In addition, the game world reacts dynamically to weather and environmental influences as well as the time of day.

Important: From the launch, you won’t need a Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus membership for Throne and Liberty. The MMORPG will also be available in the West with a free-to-play payment model. So it’s no problem to just take a look.
