With Throne and Liberty, a new, big MMORPG is coming in 2023. Developed by veterans at NCSoft and published, at least for us in the west, by Amazon Games, the game has all the potential to make it big. But where can you play anyway?
What platforms does TL appear on? Throne and Liberty is now known by a few names. Originally announced as Lineage Eternal, then long gone and resurfaced as Project TL, it now has a final name.
With such a long development time, the question often arises as to where you can actually play the game in the end. The PC, the PS5 and the Xbox Series are currently confirmed. According to the current state of knowledge, there should be no last-gen versions for PS4. We’ll update this article if that changes.
Is Throne and Liberty Coming to Steam? For many Western players, this is an essential question that is difficult to find an answer to. But currently the answer is: very likely yes. Below we explain two reasons why this is so likely.
There are two reasons for Throne and Liberty to be released on Steam
The first reason: This is the publisher Amazon Games. So far, it has always relied fully on Steam and didn’t even offer its own launcher for the two big MMORPGs New World and Lost Ark and has done very well with it so far. A similar concept would be conceivable for Throne and Liberty.

The second reason: This is a statement from an NCSoft PR person on April 5, 2022, who told Korean website newsis.com: “Throne and Liberty is thinking very positively about the Steam release while Guild Wars is preparing for the release. Steam is very influential in the Western market as a PC gaming platform and we are actively considering targeting the American and European PC markets with it.”
Release later this year – with many unanswered questions
What speaks against it? Against a release on Steam, at least against a pure publication on the platform, i.e. NCSoft’s own platform. With “Purple” they have long since built up their own method of bringing games to the people.
There is also a link to Purple on the official Throne and Liberty website, but it is still “dead” and leads nowhere. A Steam link, however, is currently not to be found. However, the game is not officially listed on either platform.
Of course, it is also possible that Purple is only used for the release in Korea, while Steam is used in the western market. The possibility that both launchers are used in parallel for Throne and Liberty is also conceivable. So far, however, this is nothing but speculation.
When will Throne and Liberty be released? The new MMORPG is scheduled to be released globally for PC and consoles in the first half of 2023. There is currently no exact date. However, the communicated period of 2023 was only recently confirmed again in a presentation to shareholders.
So the chances are good that the game will actually be released soon and will not be postponed again.
