A new weapon will be released in Throne and Liberty in December. It should finally close the gap between close and long-range combat.
What kind of weapon is that? The developers of Throne and Liberty presented their new weapon in a video on YouTube. It is a new spear that should come into the game with the patch on December 5th.
The weapons in Throne and Liberty replaced the classes from other MMORPGs. Depending on which combination is played, the play style changes and you become a melee fighter, ranged fighter, healer or tank.

The spear should close the gap
How is the spear supposed to bridge the gap between close and ranged combat? The spear will offer many abilities that also work over longer distances. When fighting monsters, this means that many AOE abilities add burn damage to monsters.
For PvP, the spear offers several stuns, as well as abilities that also hit targets behind the attacked player. This allows a player with a spear to duel in close combat and still deal damage to the ranged fighters in the back line.
Because the weapon can be combined with all other melee weapons, according to the developers it should ensure that melee fighters become stronger in PvP. The developers also say that ranged fighters currently do very good damage over distance. The spear should now start right here.
The spearmen stack debuffs on a target. When these negative effects are at a maximum, her primary attack ability gains some special effects. If the debuff expires beforehand, it explodes and causes damage to the player and everyone around them.
Some of the abilities can be equipped with fire elements through the right specializations, which apply additional debuffs.

What role should the spearman play? The spearman is intended to serve as either a nuker or a bruiser. He has a buff that allows him to resist movement impairing abilities. With his own abilities he can limit several goals at once.
The debuffs that the spearman applies to his opponents allow him to deal damage to many enemies over a period of time.
Which role the spearman actually plays in the end depends on the second weapon that the player chooses. The usual other weapons are available to choose from here. The spear can be played in many different ways.
