A three-year-old Palestinian boy who was shot by Israeli forces last week in a community near Ramallah in the West Bank has died of his injuries.
The boy was shot on Thursday and has since been treated in hospital. However, his life could not be saved “despite extensive efforts by the medical staff”, according to the hospital.
The three-year-old’s father was also injured in the incident. The father later told AFP that they were sitting in a car to visit some family members when they were suddenly shot at.
In a statement shortly after the incident, the Israeli army stated that “attackers fired in the direction of the community of Neveh Tzuf” and that “soldiers stationed nearby responded by firing a number of bullets.” This resulted in two injured Palestinians, one of whom was the three-year-old, according to the army, which “regretted the injury to non-combatants”.
So far this year, at least 156 Palestinians and 21 Israelis have been killed in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to AFP’s tally.
