During Tuesday evening, Amanda and her friend Aila Petersson were out riding with their children when some motocross bikes and four-wheelers came driving at high speed. The horses got scared and the pony Messi ran into the road.
The group saw neither license plates nor who was on the vehicles.

Rarely with personal injuries
According to the Swedish Transport Agency, there were four accidents involving personal injury in traffic where horses were involved in 2023. In 2024, there has so far been one such accident.
Riding school advisor Anna Reilly from the Swedish Riding Sports Association believes that it is not uncommon for riders to experience unpleasant situations even if no one is injured.
– There can be so many things that come into play that make the horse afraid. For example, a plastic bag in a ditch fluttering up or the sound of the road when a car drives by and it’s wet outside.
Even horses used to traffic can be frightened
Anna Reilly also points out that it is important to slow down and keep a distance from horses in traffic.
– Actually, you should meet a horse like you meet a moose on the road.
