“The reason we said at the time that we were not against the ban is that we believe that telephones do not belong in traffic,” says Martijn van Es. According to the spokesperson for the Fietsersbond, this applies to all forms of distraction on the road. But, he emphasizes, finding a relationship between the use of a telephone on a bicycle and the number of accidents is difficult. “Whether it has had an effect is difficult to say. Few accidents have already taken place with cyclists calling or appending, that is still the case. Then you cannot say that it has become significantly less.”
