Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has revealed why the successful NHL player hasn’t played a single game in February.
Chicago Blackhawks forward star Jonathan Toews says that he suffers from long-lasting corona and an autoimmune disease.
Toews hasn’t played since Jan. 28. The Blackhawks placed the 34-year-old center on the injured list last Wednesday.
– It has been really challenging to cope with these symptoms, says Toews in the press release published by his team.
– Recently, this has reached a point where I have no other choice but to retire from hockey and focus fully on my own health. I am grateful for the patience and support of my teammates, the coaching staff and the entire Blackhawks organization, writes the NHL star.
Toews already told about his autoimmune disease a couple of years ago, because of which he was sidelined for the entire 2020-2021 NHL season.
Then he told a little about his illness.
– I haven’t been able to recover when my immune system reacts to everything. Whatever I do, it causes a stress reaction. “It’s been extremely frustrating not knowing how or when I’m going to get over this,” Toews revealed at the time.
Toews has spent his entire career in Chicago, winning three Stanley Cup championships. His long contract expires after this season.
In the current season, he has scored 14+14=28/-24 in the 46 matches he has played. The Chicago Blackhawks are currently the worst team in the NHL.
