It concerns three men aged 50-55, two of whom are natives of western Sweden and one in the Stockholm area, according to TT. They were arrested early Wednesday morning and detained later in the day.
Two of the men are suspected of gross crimes against international law committed in Syria between July and September 2012. For the third man, the suspicions extend to September 2013. According to TT’s information, all three have previously been unpunished.
The effort has taken place within the framework of a collaboration between Swedish and German prosecutors and police with the support of Europol and Eurojust.
– Thanks to a good cooperation with Germany, Eurojust and Europol in particular, we have now been able to detain the suspects, said District Attorney Ulrika Bentelius Egelrud, who is the head of the preliminary investigation at the time.
During Friday, the detention proceedings took place in Solna district court, where all three were detained for gross violations of international law. All deny wrongdoing.
– Now we have a prosecution deadline of August 2 and we will continue with the investigation, says Bentelius Egelrud.
