Three suspects after the tomato attack in the Riksdag

Two women and a man are suspected of having been involved in the tomato attack on the foreign minister last week.
– They have been served with suspicion of crime, says preliminary investigation manager Josefine Loob to TT.

Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard was forced to run from a debate in the Riksdag on Thursday after someone threw a bag of tomatoes and onions at her. Three people were arrested by guards and handed over to the police. Who is suspected of having done what, preliminary investigation leader Josefine Loob does not want to answer.

But all three have been involved in disrupting the administration of justice at the same time, she tells TT.

Can result in imprisonment

The persons are said to have been Palestinian activists. They shouted, among other things, “Stop Israel, they are terrorists” and “The coward is running”, as the foreign minister left the chamber. The crime they are suspected of is the same crime as in previous protests during debates in the Riksdag – despite the fact that on this occasion something was thrown from the podium.

– I can’t comment on this specific case, but it could be how the cast has gone in such cases. Where it has been directed, where it has ended up, what you throw.

All the circumstances surrounding it are important for the criminal classification.

The crime can result in a fine or imprisonment for a maximum of six months.

– If it is a more serious act, you can receive a more serious punishment but within the framework of the punishment scale, says Loob.

“Very unpleasant”

There is no plaintiff in the case and the suspects have not yet been questioned. The case is scheduled to be handed over to prosecutors in early November.

After the incident, an extraordinary meeting was held among the group leaders of the Riksdag parties and the security around the chamber is being reviewed.

– I did not know what was thrown, so it is clear that it was a very unpleasant situation, the foreign minister has said about the incident.
