The alarm about the accident, where two vehicles were involved, came at 4.30pm on Sunday.
Three people were taken to hospital after the accident, reports say Västerviks-Tidningen.
In the evening, Region Kalmar announced that the three, a man and a woman in their 75s and a woman in their 80s, are seriously injured. All have been admitted to the intensive care unit.
