Man woman charged in separate theft incidents in Chatham

Three people are facing charges after Chatham-Kent police responded to two separate disturbance calls in Chatham on Saturday.

During the evening, police were called to a residence and learned an argument between a man and woman, both 33 of Chatham, escalated into a physical altercation.

The man allegedly kicked and damaged the woman’s vehicle, police said.

The woman is then alleged to have damaged the man’s vehicle with a baseball bat, police added.

The man then alleged pushed the woman to the ground where she allegedly gouged his eyes, police said.

Both accused were arrested and each charged with assault and mischief, police said.

They were both released from custody with conditions and a July 15 court date.

In the morning, officers responded to an incident where police learned a 20-year-old Chatham woman allegedly slapped, punched and cut a man with a broken piece of fan.

Police said the accused was located, arrested and charged with three counts of assault and one count of assault with a weapon.

She was released from custody with conditions and court date.

Crash leads to impaired charge

A 20-year-old Merlin man is facing an impaired driving charge after Chatham-Kent police responded to a single-vehicle crash in Chatham around 4:30 pm Saturday.

Through investigation, police said it was believed the accused was driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for testing.

Following a breath analysis, police said it was determined the accused had a blood-alcohol level exceeding the legal limit.

The accused was released from custody with a June 22 court date, police said.
