Three UN peacekeepers have been killed and five injured in an accident in Mali. Soldiers on peacekeeping duty were killed when their vehicle ran into a mine-like explosive device.

According to the Defense Forces, there were no Finnish peacekeepers among the dead or injured.

Unrest has increased in Mali since Islamist rebels began their operations in the northern parts of the country in 2012.

Finnish peacekeepers have been involved in the UN stabilization mission in recent years in staff positions.
