Three Norfolk OPP cruisers damaged during arrest of suspect

Three police cruisers were damaged as Norfolk OPP tried to stop a suspect in Delhi during a vehicle theft investigation

The investigation began on the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 5 when Norfolk OPP responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck on Highway 59.

The driver fled the scene, said police.

The vehicle involved had been reported stolen from a Port Stanley location.

About an hour later, Norfolk OPP began investigating the theft of a pickup truck from a Highway 59 address.

“The suspect lost control of the vehicle, entered the ditch and fled the scene on foot,” said Norfolk OPP.

Officers with the Norfolk detachment, the OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine Unit were unable to locate the suspect.

The vehicle was found in a parking lot of a business on James Street in Delhi.

Police say three cruisers were damaged when the driver attempted to evade arrest.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, said police.

A 30-year-old St. Thomas man is facing several charges, including:

  • Break, enter a place – commit unspeakable offense,
  • Assault,
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm,
  • Fail to remain (two counts),
  • Flight from peace officer,
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Fail to comply with probation order (two counts)
  • Failure or refusal to comply with request,
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to wait court (five counts),
  • Obstruct peace officer (two counts),
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (three counts),
  • Possession of break-in instruments (two counts),
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – in Canada (four counts),
  • Theft of motor vehicle (two counts).
  • Dangerous operation (three counts),
  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt,
  • Drive motor vehicle, no plates,
  • Driver – no helmet or improper helmet,

The accused was held in custody to await a bail hearing.
