Facts: Preliminary distribution of mandates
According to the preliminary election results, the 349 parliamentary mandates are distributed as follows:
The moderates 68
The Social Democrats 107
The Liberals 16
Center Party 24
The Left Party 24
The Green Party 18
The Christian Democrats 19
Sweden Democrats 73
6,575 out of 6,578 electoral districts have been counted. Three remain and since 22:00 on Wednesday evening, the Electoral Authority’s website has not been updated. Right now, there is just under 44,000 votes between the blocs.
Now the final results from Botkyrka, Östersund and Vadstena are awaited. The preliminary election results will be finalized on Thursday.
Preliminarily, Ulf Kristersson’s government base with M, KD, SD and L looks to get 176 seats against 173 seats for S, MP, V and C.
The right-wing bloc took an extra mandate during Wednesday’s count of the late votes that did not make it to the polling station on election day. The Social Democrats lost the mandate to the Moderates.
Compared to last Sunday evening, the Social Democrats have retreated from 30.5 to 30.3 percent. SD and KD retreated a tenth of a percentage point each on Wednesday evening.
Although not all votes were counted, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson admitted defeat on Wednesday evening and announced her resignation. M leader Ulf Kristersson says he is starting work on forming a new government.
Since Monday, a final count of all votes has been underway at the county administrative boards to determine the election results. The final election results are usually ready about a week after election day, the Swedish Electoral Authority states.
