Three arrested for stealing colognes and jewelry from the Goya

The National Police have arrested three workers for stealing colognes and jewelry in the flats evicted by the explosion that occurred last week in an attic in the Salamanca district. The detainees took advantage of the fact that they were carrying out the work demolition of the building to steal objects from inside homes.

The authorities arrested the three people on Monday, May 9, around 5:00 p.m., after the residents of the evicted apartments denounced the lack of several objects in their houses. The explosion in the attic of building 35 on General Pardiñas street left two dead and 18 people injured last Friday.

Most of the items stolen were colognes like Chanel nº5with a price per bottle of 60 euros, although they also stole rings and necklaces, according to The country. The workers kept the objects in a backpack that they hid in the construction site. Once the authorities found the backpack, they showed the objects to the affected neighbors and confirmed that they were theirs. Thus, the Police arrested the workers immediately and transferred them to the Salamanca district police station.

The situation of the building is “truly disastrous”

Last Sunday, May 8, two days after the explosion, relocation work began in a building annexed to the affected one. Firefighters from the Madrid City Council accompanied twenty families from number 33 on the same street to access their homes safely.

The explosion took place in the central neighborhood of Goya and caused significant material damage to the property, on street furniture and on vehicles parked in the area. The deputy mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, described the situation of the building as “truly disastroustypical of a bankruptcy that will probably be declared”.
