Three men have been shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, according to Palestinian authorities in the occupied territory.
This must have happened during a major confrontation in the town of Tulkarm in the northwestern West Bank. The three men killed were all between 20 and 30 years old, according to Palestinian health officials there. A further number of people are said to have been injured.
When the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports on the incident, it describes the clashes as a result of an Israeli raid in Tulkarm shortly after midnight local time.
Earlier on Wednesday, there were Palestinian reports that a man had been killed at a roadblock outside the city of Ramallah, as thousands of Palestinians gathered on the anniversary of what they call the nakba, the “catastrophe” – the great flight or displacement of Palestinians by the state of Israel founding 76 years ago.
Alongside the war raging in Gaza, at least 500 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers in the West Bank, according to Palestinian health officials. During the same period, at least 20 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks, according to AFP’s calculation.
