A 55-year-old man is charged on suspicion of having poured petrol over an eleven-year-old boy and threatened to set him on fire, reports Göteborgs-Posten.

The incident occurred in Borås at the beginning of June this year, when the boy got his shirt soaked in petrol. The man is then suspected of having said “now I light up”, while holding a cigarette.

The boy’s two same-age friends witnessed the incident, and a week later the man is also suspected of exposing himself to the three children. According to the indictment, the man also threatened a couple in their 40s and their child with a plank on another occasion.

The man is now charged with several crimes, including gross illegal threats and sexual molestation of children.

Rebecka Nordlund, prosecutor, believes that the evidence against the man is strong.

– That is my opinion, and therefore I think you can expect a guilty verdict. There is such good supporting evidence, partly technical evidence such as the boy’s shirt, but also testimonies from the boys who were present at the incident. There is also some kind of connection between these people, but I cannot go into which, she tells the newspaper.

The man has previously been convicted of a crime.
