Thousands of rebel mothers in major climate action: “Gripping”

Long islandover a thousand mothers and fathers have gathered in central Stockholm in a climate action.
– It is moving to see so many mothers and fathers here because they care about the climate and take responsibility for the future of their children and grandchildren, says Ute Attermeyer, rebel mother and municipal politician in the Environmental Party in Arvika to TV4 Nyheterna.

The action, which is organized by the climate organization Rebellmammorna, draws attention, among other things, to Earth Overshoot day. It is the day when Sweden, according to calculations, has used up its share of the earth’s resources for the whole of 2024, which falls today, Sunday, April 21.

As of today, people in Sweden live on resources that the country does not really have.

– It is moving to see so many mothers and fathers here because they care about the climate and take responsibility for the future of their children and grandchildren, says Ute Attermeyer, rebel mother and municipal politician in the Environmental Party in Arvika to TV4 Nyheterna.

– It’s a good and calm atmosphere. Everyone sings and many have signs with their children’s and grandchildren’s names around their necks, she continues.

“Limit that must not be exceeded”

But they have also come together to protest against climate policy in general and draw attention to the public and politicians. Together, the mothers carry a scarf of more than four kilometers representing the 1.5 degree global warming goal. The scarf is knitted by thousands of people throughout Sweden.

– The scarf symbolizes the red border of the climate. A red line that must not be crossed, says Ute Attermeyer.

The demonstration began at Sergels Torg and will continue through Kungsträdgården during the day.
