Thousands of inhabitants flee from Bukavu since the militia M23 entered the city. In the streets, burnt bodies are visible.

The morning after the M23 entered the million city, the streets were full of people trying to leave the city, and others who looted and filled flour bags with everything they could find.

However, most residents await in their homes, shocked by burnt corpses lying on the streets, the AP writes.

Among other things, videos on social media show how factories in the area are looted and how prisons are emptied.

– It’s shameful. Some residents have fallen victims of past bullets. Even some soldiers who remain in the city are largely involved in these looting, a 25-year-old resident tells the news agency.

A few weeks ago, M23 and Rwandan soldiers took the city of Goma and have since advanced south. According to the UN, almost 3,000 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands have been displaced in eastern Congo since the turn of the year.
