Thousands of Kurdish demonstrators gathered in the Syrian city of Qamishli to protest against recent Turkish attacks on Kurdish groups in northeastern Syria.

Last Sunday, Turkey announced that it had carried out airstrikes against Kurdish targets in Syria and Iraq. Turkey has also threatened a ground offensive in Kurdish-controlled areas of Syria.

The protesters in Qamishli carried pictures of people killed in the recent attacks.

– We will not leave our historic country, said protester Siham Sleiman.

– How long will we continue to die while other countries watch? asked Salah el-Dine Hamou.

After a three-day pause, Turkish warplanes attacked Kurdish-held areas north of Aleppo early Sunday, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
