Malena Karlsson and her dog were sleeping when two diesel thieves crashed straight into her house.

At first she thought a bomb had exploded.

– I’m just grateful that I’m alive, she says to Aftonbladet.

It was at four o’clock on Thursday morning that Malena Karlsson and her dog Glitter had a brutal awakening.

They were sleeping upstairs above the kitchen when they were suddenly awakened by a terrible bang.

– At first I thought it was a bomb that went off, she says when Aftonbladet reaches her by phone.

Then screams were heard. It was the police who shouted at her to get out quickly.

Shocked and without having understood what had happened, she quickly made her way downstairs. There was a burning smell and water was spraying from the hall after a pipe broke.

“Hole in the house”

There was a hole into the kitchen and a lot of debris had flown into the living room. A car had driven straight into the house and through the wall.

– I was so shocked when I came down that I didn’t see at first that there were holes in the house and the window in the hall.

Malena and Glitter got out. For two hours, Malena sat under a blanket outside the house and watched as the emergency services worked to secure the house from more races.

– I should probably have gone in to a neighbour’s, but I was so shocked and just wanted to be there, she says.

At eight o’clock in the morning, Malena has made it to the landlord’s office with Glitter. Her friend has come there to support them and Glitter got her Christmas present, a jar of pate, early.

Thankful she’s alive

Malena will now have another place to live while the damage to the house is repaired.

– It will take a long time and you are unsure how much you will be able to save from the house, she says.

The car with the two suspected diesel thieves drove right under Malena’s bedroom. They were taken to hospital in an ambulance after the crash. In addition to diesel theft, the driver is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and carelessness in traffic.

Malena is grateful that neither she nor Glitter were injured and that her 22-year-old son was not at home last night.

– He usually stays up late sometimes cooking in the kitchen, so I’m glad he wasn’t at home, she says.

– I’m just grateful to be alive.
