While the invasion operation launched by Russia on Ukrainian lands continued on its sixth day, a new development took place in an event that took place on the first day of the operation and was on the agenda of the world.
On the first day of the operation (Thursday), the Russian warship approached the Snake Island in the Black Sea and called for the 13 Ukrainian soldiers in the region to surrender. The soldiers refused to surrender. A short time later, it was claimed that all of them lost their lives in the Russian bombardment.
The last words of the soldiers, recorded before the bombardment, were on the agenda on social media. In the audio recording, from the Russian ship, “I suggest you surrender and surrender all your weapons. Otherwise I will open fire, understood?” announcement is made.
After the announcement, it is heard that the Ukrainian soldiers said “that’s it” among themselves and replied to the warship, “Russian ship, get out of here”.
ZELENSKIY: TO BE ANNOUNCED A HERO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy made a statement appreciating the “courage” of the soldiers and announced that all of them would be “proclaimed war heroes”.
“OUR BROTHERS ARE ALIVE”
Although the fate of the soldiers is not known exactly, it was claimed that they died. The Ukrainian Navy announced that 13 soldiers on Snake Island are still alive. “Our brothers are alive and well,” the Navy’s Facebook page said in a statement.
“AMMUNITION OVER”
It was stated that border guards and sailors on the island ‘boldly repulsed the attacks of the Russian invaders twice, but could not continue to fight because their ammunition ran out’. In the statement, Russia was accused of destroying ‘all infrastructure’ on the island, including lighthouses, towers and antennas, and cutting off communications with the mainland.
