Oscar winner Natalie Portman has played many major roles in her career, including Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and most recently Thor 4: Love and Thunder. At the beginning of her career, however, the leading role in William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet slipped through her fingers at the age of 14. The age difference between her and 21-year-old Leonardo DiCaprio made the scene very uncomfortable.

Apart from the visual impression, the Cast a 14-year-old actress as a lover a role played by a 21-year-old seems questionable to many.
However, it is by no means the only role played by young Portman, in which critics saw the sexualization of an underage teenager. A similar problem has for some viewers, for example, her breakthrough in Léon – The Professional. During the same period of Romeo + Juliet, she was also offered to play the female lead in Adrian Lyne’s Lolita.
