We had the chance to preview the movie Thor: Love and Thunder. So, did we like the highly anticipated new MCU movie?
Thor, the only name left behind from the main trio of the Marvel cinematic universe, is preparing to meet the audience with his new adventure. We had the chance to preview the movie Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be released on July 8, this morning. First of all, there will be no SPOILER, that is, unpleasant content in this review about the movie. However, if you are not up-to-date on MCU movies, there may be information about previously released movies.
Thor: Love and Thunder review
The Thor series, which made the weakest films of the cinematic universe on the individual side, actually recovered a lot with Thor Ragnarok. Although most of the audience does not like this colorful style of Taika Waititi, we have to admit that the movie is very satisfying in terms of action and is the best Thor movie. Again, I can say that although Thor: Love and Thunder, which was shot by the same team, followed the footsteps of the previous film, it lagged behind it in terms of both action and execution.
I watched Thor Ragnarok with great pleasure and enjoyed the fun moments. But in the movie I watched today, there were moments when I was very bored and overwhelmed by the repetitive humor. Waititi actually stated that they would increase the tone of humor before the movie came out and made many viewers like me doubtful. When I watched the movie, I realized that Thor: Love and Thunder was starting to get crushed under the increasing humor structure.
Although MCU movies have many absurd, absurd or funny scenes, they have actually achieved success with their consistent progress. Here, the new Thor movie has almost thrown this situation away and tried to take on a bad sit-com structure where we watch the same jokes over and over. A lot of unnecessary jokes were tried to be made in the movie, and some jokes are repeated and this makes you faint. For example, you will understand when you watch, there is a joke about Stormbreaker. You laugh the first time, but the joke is so long that it reaches the level of fainting.
Why did we come here?
Because of this structure, the film has lost its consistency within itself. I’m starting to think that the characters in the movie, including members of the Guardians and Christian Bale, were just involved in it like a PR effort. Because with the first trailer, it has been repeatedly stated by the players that the character of Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale, is one of the best MCU villains. Well, considering how good the actor is, you actually try to hold on to these statements as a Marvel fan. I did the same and watched the movie with great excitement. But let alone being the best villain, I don’t think Gorr can even make it to the top 10 in the MCU.
Let’s leave this intonation part aside and touch on the story part. If you’ve read the comics, you know how formidable the character of Gorr the God Butcher is for Thor. The movie is based on this character. Gorr, who begs his god in hunger and misery, loses his family when he does not get an answer and swears to destroy all gods with the Necromancer sword he has captured. The story is similar to the one in the comic book. At least the main story of the character hasn’t been played much, but it hasn’t been deepened either.
There is little to be said about the story part. Because the story and the dialogues of the movie are written very superficially. Moreover, the story part loses its importance, as the movie only focuses on comedy, apart from where it is intended to focus. So Gorr’s story, Thor’s situation could have been handled in a much more dramatic way, but those parts were brought to a fait accompli. You have an actor like Christian Bale and you can’t take full advantage of him, it’s really sad. On the other hand, Thor’s world, who lost everything while there is a character threatening all reality for his children in another universe, remains very colorful in this event. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about the fun structure of the movie, as I said, I loved watching Ragnarok, but they couldn’t keep that balance in this movie and the constant lay-lom atmosphere bothers you.
How many hidden endings are there in Thor: Love and Thunder?
There are two secret endings, namely the last scene, in the movie. One of them is the story, it’s probably important for the next movie. The second is more of a character-driven scene. In terms of the MCU in general, they are not of great importance.
As a result, Thor: Love and Thunder has been one of the most mediocre works of Marvel in my opinion lately. When I say most fun for Thor Ragnarok, it’s really boring to say that for this movie. Waititi, who tried to apply the formula of the previous film to this new film by increasing the dose of comedy, frankly, was not very successful in this. You realize that the movie takes on a structure that will be forgotten very quickly when you talk about the scenes brought to the end, the dialogues or events that you can’t make sense of.
It is not known whether they are aware of this situation, but the script team gave the film a very, very important scene. There are references to comics and statues of some characters throughout the movie, but it was a situation that I found very strange that this event was directly connected to the script. You know, there are some animes and you come across very bad elephant episodes. Here, the new Thor movie has been a production that goes exactly in the minds of Elephants.
