Zlatan Ibrahimovic revealed what he really thinks about cross-country skiing.
Then he got a sour answer – from Thomas Wassberg.
– Say hello to Zlatan!, said the icon to DN.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a truly legendary career, where he belonged to the absolute top tier of world football for 20 years. But what would it really have been like if Zlatan Ibrahimovic, at some point at the end of his career, bet on a completely different sport?
Zlatan’s sawing of cross-country skis
When Henrik Larsson’s football career was over, there was a short turn in the Swedish top league in floorball. It was never close to exactly that happening for Ibrahimovic, but in 2015, when he was 34, he admitted in an interview with Dagens Nyheter that he longed for a venture into a new sport. He then revealed that he practices MMA, basketball, tennis and saddle.
He told me that he wasn’t particularly interested in a sport where he had to run, and besides, cross-country skiing went away – but not for the reason you might first think. According to many, cross-country skiing is among the most physically demanding sports there is, but for Ibrahimovic it was rather about something completely different; namely lack of competition.
– There are 200 others within that world. It would have been too easy to win, Ibrahimovic said.

Wassberg’s nice pass
Of course, the statement was not received very positively in the skiing world. DN took the opportunity to call a certain Thomas Wassberg, who said that Zlatan “can try then”. However, he admitted that Ibra was right to some extent, that the competition is tougher in football.
– In that way, Zlatan is probably a little right. But I don’t think it’s possible to become much better skiers than those at the top, he said.
However, Thomas Wassberg also took the opportunity to send a serious pass to Ibra, about the football star’s condition.
– Say hello to Zlatan that he can come and try, but I don’t think his fitness is enough. That he has too little fitness, I think you have seen on the football field sometimes, Wassberg said.
