After a long career, Thomas Ravelli has played with many talented footballers.
But he has no problem with pointing out who are the best he has shared the floor with.
– In that way, they were incredibly good, says Ravelli to Sportbibeln.
Thomas Ravelli, 64, played professional football for over 20 years. On his CV, he has the clubs Östers IF, IFK Göteborg and Tampa Bay Mutiny. In the Swedish A national team, Ravelli made 143 appearances between the years 1981-1997. The former goalkeeper has therefore played with many good footballers over the years.
Ravelli’s favorite
Pointing out the best player he has played with is thus a challenge for Ravelli.
– It’s hard to answer, I’ve played with so many.
– But in the national team it is (Thomas) Brolin and Torbjörn Nilsson, there are two players who were outstanding at the time. However, I’ve been at it for so long, so I’ve played with several different generations. But I think then Brolin WC 94 and Torbjörn Nilsson in the 80s, says Ravelli to Sportbibeln.

What made them so good?
– They were the type of players who made their teammates good. They could do things themselves too, but they opened up areas for other players in the team and other things. There are different types of players who are good individually, but do not have the ability to make fellow players good. So they had it, they lifted the team and lifted themselves, and in that way they were incredibly good at the time.
Paying tribute to the legend
The best player Ravelli has played against is easier to answer for the former world goalkeeper.
– It is Marco van Basten when he played in Milan -92. I had big problems with him.

AC Milan and IFK Gothenburg met in the first round of the Champions League in 1992 at San Siro. The match ended 4-0 to the home team.
– Then van Basten scored all four goals on me. He was good with his head, in the passing game, good finisher, he was good at everything that guy, says Ravelli.
