Thomas Gottschalk stops but the show may go on without

In 2011, Thomas Gottschalk published what was supposed to be his last issue of Wetten, dass..? moderated. Twelve years later he will do it a second time – and this time his farewell to the biggest German show is probably final. As DWDL reports, Gottschalk will moderate his last issue next November. He merely hints at the reasons. The future of the ZDF program is open.

Why does Thomas Gottschalk as Wetten, dass..? moderator stop?

Gottschalk had brought the show battleship back to ZDF once a year since 2021. Bet that..? developed into a nostalgic event with guaranteed quotas. The program achieved a market share of up to 50 percent. The resignation of the 74-year-old comes as a surprise from a quota perspective. However, there had recently been greater criticism of his style.

Gottschalk himself says nowit would have “many reasons” led to his decision. He will himself “at a given time” comment, reports Bunte.

Markus Lanz 2.0? How about bets that..? further?

“ZDF will decide how the format will continue in due course after the broadcast”, the ZDF states in a press release. The final end of the show, which is linked to its moderator like no other, is by no means decided with Gottschalk’s resignation.

After Gottschalk’s first resignation, Markus Lanz took over the show for a short period of time – with dubious success. Apparently, ZDF is still working on a continuation, precisely because the show is going so well. It is questionable whether that will also be the case without Gottschalk.

Gottschalk’s co-moderator for years Michelle Hunziker will no longer be part of his farewell show. “As far as Michelle is concerned, I agree with ZDF: beginning and end shake hands. I did the first show alone, I can do it with the last one too.”says Gottschalk.

There is already an exact date for the last Wetten, dass..? show with Thomas Gottschalk: On November 25, 2023 at 8:15 p.m. the farewell performance will be on ZDF.
