Thomas Asplund cycled 120 miles – in time before Postnord

Thomas Asplund can now boast the title “Faster than Postnord – on a bicycle”.

He was faster than the shipping company when he posted a package in Gävle – and then made it to Haparanda before that.

Arrived two days before the package

Thomas Asplund’s journey through Sweden was a total of just over 120 miles.

– It wasn’t really a challenge against Postnord, but it became some kind of long-distance challenge, says Thomas in Sverigesvepet in Efter fem.

The newly retired person posted the package on August 14 and set off on the bike ride the next day. Thomas Asplund expected the package to arrive before him, but it didn’t.

On August 21, the cyclist arrived in Haparanda. But when he contacted the friend he had sent the package to, it was not available to collect.

– I have seen that the package has been to a lot of places in Sweden on its journey to Haparanda, so it has probably traveled more miles than I have done, says Thomas Asplund.

Two days after Thomas Asplund’s arrival in Haparanda, he managed to retrieve his package.

Postcode answers

Postnord has commented on the incident to Efter fem via email:

“On a normal working day, we handle between half a million and one million packages. In July, 96% of packages arrived on time, but sometimes address labels can fall off, traffic disruptions occur, or sheer handling errors can cause packages to be mis-delivered. If Thomas contacts our customer service with Koll-ID, they can investigate what is behind it and Thomas can also advertise the service he has purchased if he so wishes.”

Now Thomas Asplund has received offers from friends who have needed to have their packages sent both here and there. But then they have to pay the price, as the friend in Haparanda did.

– I had a good tailwind and had been promised a good sauna and some beer. So it was just to step on, then.
