This year’s spring flood more intense in the northern part of Västernorrland – the amount of snow decisive

With the help of spring flood forecasts from SMHI, the water regulation companies and the county board’s own analyses, the county board has assessed that there will be a more intense spring flood in Västernorrland.

– When it gets that hot, it can happen quickly and a lot of water can come in a short time, says Martin Neldén.

According to the county board’s own analyses, there is generally more snow than normal this year, especially in the area north of the Ångermanälven. While inland, snow amounts are normal or slightly below normal for the season.

Based on the county board’s forecasts, the assessment is that conditions in the county will vary. If the heat hits, it can be a real rush, mainly in the northern part. If the melting is rapid and combined with rain, areas that had problems in the past can be affected again.

– What can happen is that there will be floods, he says.
